Mission Statement

As members, of the Southern Institute School of Interior Design at Virginia College ASID Student Chapter, we are driven by both our love for design and the commitment needed to further our involvement in the Interior Design profession. 

It is our hope that our actions in the community, our desire to institute learning and facilitate the learning environment, and our dedicated commitment to detail serves as a powerful tool that can positively affect the lives of both the entire Interior Design student body around us, and the future Interior Designers that we hope to inspire through workshops, seminars, and our membership campaigns.


___ Prentiss McNider ___
President

As the President, of the Southern Institute School of Interior Design at Virginia College ASID Student Chapter, Prentiss wears many hats. Prentiss helps keep our Student Chapter organized and well informed about upcoming ASID events, he helps set up our calendar of events, and also helps orchestrate the community service projects our Student Chapter seeks out to become involved in. 

The presidential role consumes much of the President’s time, but according to Prentiss the time is well spent!


___ Owen Lane ___
President-Elect

As the President Elect, of the Southern Institute School of Interior Design at Virginia College ASID Student Chapter, Owen is in charge of all of our community service projects, attends ASID conferences with Prentiss, attends all ASID officer meetings, and will replace Prentiss upon graduation.  

The first year of Owen’s position will mostly be shadowing Prentiss during his duties, but Owen can expect his position to become more intense during its second year.  We all feel that Owen is up for the challenge, and will make a great ASID Student Chapter President when the time comes that we will lose Prentiss.


___ Amanda Cooper ___
Secretary

As the Secretary, of the Southern Institute School of Interior Design at Virginia College ASID Student Chapter, Amanda keeps the records for all of our ASID student events and meetings, she works closely with both the chapter President and the President-Elect in order to maintain the ASID student membership rosters, she helps coordinate and organize the ASID student membership drives, and Amanda also serves as our Chairman of Student Events.


___ Jennie Lowery ___
Treasurer, Web/Graphic Designer, & Publicist

As the Treasurer, of the Southern Institute School of Interior Design at Virginia College ASID Student Chapter, Jennie makes sure that the Student Chapter Checkbook stays in tip top order.  While this job is not extremely taxing, she does have to make sure that the checkbook stays balanced, reimbursements are made in a timely manner, and any payments that are due get paid on time.

Jennie is also the Web/Graphic Designer for the Student Chapter.  This position entails some computer knowledge, as well as a lot of free time.  Jennie is responsible for collecting pictures from the Historian, William, keeping the calendar of events up to date on the website, and monitoring the Student Chapter email box.  When the need arises for event flyers, posters, banners, or hand-outs Jennie also takes care of those for the Student Chapter.

As the Publicist for the Student Chapter, along with getting the event flyers, posters, banners, or hand-outs ready for the chapter to use, Jennie is also responsible for getting the word out into several media outlets when the public is invited to attend the events.


___ William McLure IV ___
Historian

As the Historian, of the Southern Institute School of Interior Design at Virginia College ASID Student Chapter, William is responsible for taking pictures at all ASID Student Chapter functions and events, as well as any ASID meetings that might be held at the Virginia College campus. 

William is responsible for compiling a chapter award notebook at the end of each year, collecting information from each meeting or event, to deliver to Jennie for the website, and to help any officer that needs his services, so that they are well organized and ready to face each new possibility that arises.


___ Melissa Sypeck ___
Faulty Advisor

Our Faculty Advisor, for the Southern Institute School of Interior Design at Virginia College ASID Student Chapter, Mrs. Sypeck was selected by the Student Chapter members in 2009.  While Mrs. Sypeck does not run the Student Chapter she helps advise the Student Chapter members on the events we participate in and helps orchestrate their successful execution. 

Mrs. Sypeck has been instrumental in helping us acquire industry professionals for our “Lunch & Learn” campaigns, in helping us orchestrate our membership drives and fundraisers, and she also helps keep us informed of the ever changing industry trends and issues that are current inside the world of the ASID.


___ Jamie Stone ___
Interior Design Program Director

Mrs. Stone is the Interior Design Program Director at Southern Institute School of Interior Design at Virginia College.  Mrs. Stone attends all of our Student Chapter meetings, all ASID meetings, and also sits on the Board. 

Mrs. Stone keeps us motivated about fundraising, having membership drives, and being involved in the community service events that we are involved with.  Mrs. Stone works closely with the Student Chapter officers and Mrs. Sypeck to help ensure that everyone is functioning efficiently inside our Student Chapter. 

Mrs. Stone is also the key in helping ASID student members continue their participation in the annual Decorator’s ShowHouse over the last 30+ years.
