Ever wondered why your ceiling fan has a switch that reverses the way the blades revolve? Well, that is for using your ceiling fan in the winter. Yes, I said using your ceiling fans in the winter!

Use of the ceiling fan in winter might seem a bit strange, but it can actually save you money on your heating bills!

Heat rises, and large amounts of heated air can collect in a large room with high ceilings before it can even be felt. In colder climates most heating vents are put in the floor; because this is the most effective way to heat a room, since the warm air will rise.

Knowing that heat rises, take a room with a 16' cathedral ceiling for example. If you set your thermostat on 68 degrees F the uppermost 3 feet can be almost 90 degrees or higher before the heater shuts off; which is an incredible waste of energy.

To counteract this waste of energy you can use a ceiling fan to combat it! Set the reverse switch for an upward airflow (the blades will turn clockwise)and run your ceiling fan on low speed; this will force the heat accumulated at the ceiling down along the walls where it must rise again.

This mild circulation of air will provide not only lower energy consumption (and bills) but will also help to more evenly heat a room and help shorten the time it takes the heater to work. Make sure to only put your ceiling fan on the lowest speed, in order to avoid drafts.

Who has ever wondered what the designer/builder was thinking when they decided on the space they gave you for your current laundry room?  If when you walk into your laundry room you feel like it is closing in on you, you aren't alone!

The solution isn't always easy; because who has the money or space to expand their laundry room?  Sure you could use one of the spare bedroom, but who wants to do that?  A cramped laundry room makes folding and sorting laundry seem like a much larger and harder chore than it really is, doesn't it?

A great solution is upgrading to front load washerdryer combo with a counter top installed above them.  Most front load washer/dryer manufacturerers even make the countertop, so there is no construction involved!  Add some shelves above and you'll have a space where doing laundry is orgnaized and roomy!

Who likes going into a beautifully designed home, where every detail is thought of ...every detail except those opaque, off-white, ugly, plastic light switch & outlet plates that end up peppered all over the walls and near the baseboards.  The same switch plates that eventually and invariably turn a weird looking yellow color.

The solution .. clear light switch plates!

They can sometimes be a tad pricey, but will work exceptionally well when used over wall paper, or in a really conspicuous area (you know, those oddly placed switches) on which you just want the light switch or power outlet to disappear!

Most of us never have enough space in our home, especially in our bedrooms.

Clothing, shoes, and assorted other trinkets fill our spaces and leave us with a space that is cramped and lacking order.

By simply installing a dresser unit under our beds we can capitalize on some unused storage space, and get all those piles of stuff off our dressers and out of our floors.
